“Instruction acts only on the
intellect; education is concerned with the will, the sentiments, the
morals, the taste, the highest aspirations of the child…..” (Kieffer)

Instructors and Mentors
|
| At Cherrybrook, the teacher is both an instructor
and a mentor whose principal motivation is the education of the
whole person. As an instructor, the teacher imparts a body of
knowledge to each student as well as the skills and habits of mind
to apply that knowledge to the best of each one's ability. As a
mentor, the teacher is the wise and experienced adult who guides
the student as he learns to make choices - sometimes difficult
ones. Therefore, teaching in Cherrybrook goes beyond subject
matters. It embraces all aspects of educating the whole person
which include social, spiritual, psychological and behavioural
guidance.
Cherrybrook looks for teachers who are competent and
experienced but most importantly, who will understand, appreciate
and be committed to the philosophy, mission, virtues and values
upheld by the School.

The
Professional Teacher
|
| To be effective as both instructor and mentor, a
teacher must know each of her students' intellectual and personal
strengths and weaknesses. To this end, our personalized way of
education makes it possible for each teacher to identify and
correct - always with as much affection and tact as possible -
behaviour which impedes the growth or academic development of her
students.

Teachers Who Strive To Live
The Virtues
|
| Apart from creating a conducive environment,
practicing virtues is each teacher's most effective means of
helping her students acquire virtues. Therefore, in addition to
professional development, our teachers are given regular
opportunities to deepen their understanding of the virtues through
workshops and courses.
