Our Cherrybrook programme is guided by the Montessori Philosophy and adopts her pedagogy for the teaching of 2.5 to 6 year olds (18 months to 6 year olds at East Coast school). The children spend a large part of the school day in the mixed-aged Montessori classroom. This prepared environment is set up to allow children to learn through their own activity with the guidance of the directresses (aka teachers). The classroom has materials and activities to engage the children in Practical Life, Sensorial, Mathematics, Languages (English and Chinese), Cultural Studies (History, Geography and Science), the Creative Arts (Art and Music, Movement and Dance) and Physical Education, etc.
In addition to the time spent in the mixed-aged Montessori learning environment, our children also learn in specialised English and Chinese language classes (same-aged classes). In the afternoons, the children have extended Montessori and Chinese Language activities, some rest time as well as time for creative and imaginative play, and more opportunities for social interaction.
We take a holistic approach to the development of your child and focus on the following:
Language and Literacy
Motor Skills Development
Aesthetics and Creative Expression
Discovery of the World
Social and Emotional
Mandarin Speech & Drama
Through drama, this programme aims to develop your child’s interest in Mandarin and build his confidence in using the language.
English Speech & Drama
These sessions aim to help your child discover and develop his innate talents and build confidence in speaking and acting. They will be captivated by meaningful experiences focussed on character building values.
Chinese Wushu Dance
Chinese Wushu Dance incorporates moves from martial arts and classical Chinese dance, helping your child improve his coordination, flexibility and strength of body. He develops concentration, self-confidence and teamwork.
Painting hones your child’s hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills. It allows your child to express creativity, use his imagination and have fun at the same time!
These sessions give the children a time to learn more about the Catholic Faith and spend time in prayer and reflection.
